"Return from Broken" by Matt Soren (Rock Artist from Utah)

Matt Soren's newest album is "Return from Broken." It is one in which Soren fuses intense Electronic and Psychedelic Rock techniques to present a very cutting-edge sounding album that was made after Soren's successful battle with addiction and recovery. In "Breathe" we hear an echoed and industrial-type beat interact with Soren's effected voice and dancing synth tones. "Become" is a complex and building song with a lot of electronic sounds moving in and out giving way to a more soothing sounding tonality. For "On the Edge" we hear Soren play a relatively simple song as he begins by playing on his acoustic guitar before more hallucinatory sounds slowly move in. This is an album that is best described as Psychedelic/Industrial Rock, where the traditional use of the guitar is abandoned for more industrial sounding effects. Fans of Nine Inch Nails or Muse would find themselves drawn to Matt Soren's album, "Return from Broken."

Family fun and entertainment is just what Lanny Sherwin delivers on his newest CD, "Meltdown." Although geared towards children between the ages of 4-12, everyone will enjoy these wonderful pop songs, with their catchy melodies and lightly sprinkled country influences. Sherwin's lyrics are as encouraging & wise as they are humorous. For instance, in the title track, "Meltdown," he effectively sings about anger & connects to his young listeners with the wisdom of his advice. Lively and upbeat, "Granny's Got a Guitar" is not only funny but has a catchy, rock feel to it. "A Cappella, Part 3" shines with its fantastic harmonies in a song that celebrates the life of a musician. Sherwin has a gifted insight into the mind of a child and he uses his music to inspire a positive attitude, but it's his motto that really sums up his ability to relate to his audience on their level: "Don't Drive Parents Crazy." With their 10th studio album, titled "Free Your Mind", the roots-rockers of Too Slim and the Taildraggers deliver an album deserving of a broader recognition than the semi-legendary regional status the band has garnered as a live-circuit fixture in their area. Leader Tim "Too Slim" Langford has mixed classic rock with R&B sensibilities as the Taildraggers more than ably provide a powerhouse ensemble backing on the 11 original compositions. Setting the tone with both his raspy vocals and fiery guitar work, Too Slim exhorts redemption on the slow rocker "Peace With the Maker," does battle with his demons on the blues-rock stomp of "Been Through Hell," and mines the depths of the times on the charged, minor-key gem, "Last Train." With the help of a talented trio of female singers, "Free Your Mind," while relying on a roots-rock vernacular, otherwise transcends easy categorization. The accoutrements are classic guitar-stoked rock, but the individual songs make this album less a product of a genre or type than a fully-realized rock statement. For a band whose recording career spans almost 20 years, it is no less accomplished than what you would expect, and the grit & polish of Too Slim & the Taildraggers' "Free your Mind" will be enjoyed by fans of Tom Petty and ZZ Top.

"Who Walks In," the debut album from Miss Rose and Her Rhythm Percolators, captures the sound & feel of 1920's & 1930's popular jazz styles with a mix of 11 classics & nearly forgotten songs from the era, including wonderful takes on such generation-crossing standards as "Ain't She Sweet" & "'Deed I Do". Singer & ukulele-player Sunga Rose leads a spot-on 4-piece band through a repertoire of pure nostalgia. And yet, this is no museum piece. The Rhythm Percolators quartet gives these songs new life with their deft & bouyant readings, making gems like the sprightly "At the Codfish Ball" sound almost contemporary. In addition, the outstanding title song, "Who Walks In," has a wonderful Eastern European bounce while the ballad "Shanghai Lil," exhibiting some of Miss Rose's best vocals, reveals as much about its era as it does the timelessness of great song craft. As the Deperession era's popular radio hits can be seen as timeless classics, Miss Rose and Her Rhythm Percolators' excellent new release "Who Walks In" is sure to appeal to music fans looking beyond today's hottest sounds and should definitely be given a listen to.

"Still" by Jordan Bluth (Holiday/Easy Listening Artist from Arizona(AZ))

The first thing you will notice about Jordan Bluth's new Christmas CD, "Still," is the singer's powerful vocals. Bluth is obviously classically trained and is beyond comfortable in his wide baritone range. Classics like "I'll Be Home For Christmas" are sung with such power it reminds you how these songs became classics in the first place. The instrumentation and arrangements are also notably rich and complex. The album features a wide range of strings, piano, and other orchestral instruments. His voice plays especially well with the strings on "What Child Is This." "Still" puts great emotion back into holiday songs we hear year after year, and we have Jorden Bluth and his fine Christmas CD to thank for that.

"Illusions" by Terry Lynn Tschaekofske (Instrumental Artist from Utah(UT))

Terry Lynn Tschaekofske and his debut solo album, "Illusions," is a collection of songs in which he lets his expert guitar playing be placed center stage. The album is recorded using a variety of guitars; numerous types of sublime electric and acoustic sounds are featured on different tracks, yet on each track Terry is not accompanied by other instruments at all. He wants the listener to calmly take in the subtle and nuanced sounds of his prized instrument. On the song, "Who Was She," we hear an electric guitar slowly croon a love song. The song "Santa Cruz Lady," features an acoustic guitar employing a more upbeat sound with a slight blues influence. On the track, "Inamorata Mirage," we hear Terry's smooth double picking as he plays what comes off as a pleasing antiquated melody. This album is wonderful for relaxing and reflective moments; when one is curled up by the fire or to have playing nicely in the background for a family BBQ. If you enjoy tranquil yet talented music or simply are a fan of instrumental guitar compositions than "Illusions" is an album that you would enjoy hearing.

If Emmylou Harris had ever decided to rock out in her career, then the result would have sounded something like Davie Gayle's latest record, "Amber In The Clay." With songs ranging from country to contemporary ballads, Gayle takes us for a trip down Americana lane and does not disappoint. Her pristine country vocals sound wonderful and emulate classic Dolly Parton, but still have an original feel to it. You can hear Gayle's sweet voice on songs like "Get Me" and "You Don't Say." Looking for the Americana feel? Look no further than the title track as it is a perfect listen for anyone who enjoyed Robert Plant/Alison Krauss's disc ("Raising Sand"). There are also some fine pedal steel guitar moments on this record, as heard on "3:09." If you are looking for that timeless female country vocal tone with a little rock 'n' roll under it, then this Davie Gayle's "Amber In The Clay" is for you.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Ray William Roldan with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Where We Come From"

If Tom Petty ever went full-on country, then it would most likely sound something like Ray William Roldan's latest effort "Where We Come From." Roldan does a terrific job fusing country with pop-riddled vocal melodies and honky-tonk guitar riffs. There are some typical, yet well played country moments on this disc, particularly on songs like "My Country Rocks" and "Cowboy Cadillac." However, what make this album shine are tunes like "Back to Texas," which strongly resemble some of the later Traveling Wilburys work. Another nod to that sound comes by way of Roldan's vocals which emulate Jeff Lynne and cult country legend J.J. Cale. Ray William Roldan's "Where We Come From" is a very enjoyable disc whether you are a diehard country fan and/or love that Americana/pop style.

Looking for something new and different? Then you should give a listen to the album "The Temple of Humanity" by pop/rock band Freestone. This band emulates the cosmic tones familiarized by Pink Floyd and does a great job at reproducing those sounds. "The Ancient of Days" is a mellow song, featuring talented saxophone playing that makes the instrument sound almost as if it is singing. The title track exhibits a relaxing drum beat and equally soothing vocals. The instrumentation on this disc drips of Pink Floyd, with lush synth melodies and haunting guitar work. Although the material of Freestone's "The Temple of Humanity" is rare compared to what is "standard" today, it is a great listen for any Pink Floyd fan or ancient ritual buff and should definitely be checked out.

"The Ballad Of Billy Saigon" by Wes and Victoria is folk rock/Americana at its best and deserves a good listen from any fan of that genre. Originally hailing from Texas, the duo's work has that southern feel and is a great mix of folk, rock, country and good ol' cowboy music. Wes has a very unique singing voice that is particularly raw, letting you feel every note and word he is singing. The harmonica talent of Victoria is well highlighted on songs like "Trail of Tears," and it sounds great. There is also a very welcoming Rolling Stones-influenced number called "Love Got a Mind of Its Own," a song that could easily be compared to anything the Stones did in their best years. For listeners that enjoy folk rock and Bob Dylan, Wes and Victoria's "The Ballad Of Billy Saigon" is definitely worth listening to.

Hip-Hop takes a strange trip with Gnos-Tel-Jah and their latest album of original (and we mean original) material on "Becoming." Comprised of 2 male vocalists and 1 female vocalist, Gnos-Tel-Jah offers up a psychedelic ride of Hip-Hop fused with rock and spoken word. "Midnight Swang" represents the rap side to their debut disc with easy flowing rhymes and is reminiscent of the group Outkast. When you break it all down, Rap/Hip-Hop is basically spoken words with beats underlying the phrases. The band shows their love for this genre with 13 "chapters" which are 13 separate spoken tracks. Any fan of Outkast, Gnarls Barkley, or of spoken word will thoroughly enjoy "Becoming" as it is a new and innovating CD.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Randolph with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Euphony"

The widely eclectic album "Euphony" by Randolph offers a vast variety of both songs and acoustic instrumentation. Most full band albums consist of the usual key instruments (drums, bass, guitar, and vocals) but Randolph has opened the door wide open on his newest collection of jazz/blues/world pop with use of djembe, cajon, congas, bongos, tablas, timpani, drum kit, violin, trombone, sax/flute, alto flue, bassoon, oboe, and numerous ethnic instruments. The result is magnificent and is well displayed on songs like "That Piece of Me" and "Analog Man." The album is also filled with numerous lead vocal appearances, all of which are tastefully done and fit well within the song choice. There is also a great throwback to the singers of the '60's on songs such as "Let's Get Connected." If you are into pop/jazz or anything Elvis Costello has put out in recent years, you will enjoy "Euphony."

"Same Old Slippers" is an inspirational and excellently-crafted progressive folk album from singer/songwriter Judy Fjell. Judy is a Unitarian-Universalist lay minister, and her songs reflect her liberal yet religious disposition. Practicing what she preaches, "Same Old Slippers" is filled with eighteen solid, spiritual, upbeat, thought-provoking, and heartfelt folk songs about positivity and love, in hopes of a better tomorrow. Judy delivers a great vocal performance to compliment her great acoustic folk arrangements, and her overall sound is reminiscent of Malvina Reynolds (of "Little Boxes" fame) and Peter, Paul, and Mary. "Same Old Slippers" is well-produced, with clean vocals, crisp violin and fine acoustic instrumentation. "Oh You Know We Are One" is a great opening track as her lyrics cover religion, race, and even animals, as she sings about world unity, giving the listener insight to Judy's world perspective. "One Of Us Can Make A Difference" has a great violin and acoustic arrangement as Judy argues that, through "loving thoughts and positive actions," it only takes three people to change the world. "If There Is A God" is a controversial track with deep lyrics about Judy's personal religious battle, where which she sings that, God or no God, there is good and grace in this world. "Same Old Slippers" truly is an inspirational album that asks us to look past our minor discrepancies and realize that we are all the same. Fans of excellent folk music with a thought-provoking and positive message, be sure to pick this one up.

"It's Time For Love" is a self-proclaimed rhythm & gospel live album from Minister Marvin Webb. His smooth r&b vocals are reminiscent of Marvin Gaye and Tedy Pendergrass, and together with lyrics of praise and worship, Minister Webb has crafted an inspiring contemporary gospel album. His lyrics criticize the social side of the secular world. He sings about violence and poor conditions within many communities, and politically, about the long battle for peace in the Middle East, lifting the words up and putting them in the hands of the nonsecular world. The recording quality of "It's Time For Love" is also quite good, with few traces that it is a live recording. That said, it still manages to make you feel as though you are in a house of worship. "Simon Peter" takes one of the most memorable of Jesus' prophecies and compares the audience to Simon Peter himself, inferring our imperfections and God's forgiveness. "Get Your Praise On" is a great funk gospel track with a great arrangement filled with funky lead guitar, hand claps, and a nice group vocal. Overall, "It's Time For Love" is an effective album that discusses contemporary issues and the value of praising God within each of them. Fans of contemporary gospel and worship songs prepare. Minister Webb is about to show you what rhythm & gospel is all about.

Lynette is a renowned international autism expert, having taken a number of children with autism and other special needs under her wing and caring for them like family. This selfless life experience certainly glimmers forth in her songs. She is a great lyrical storyteller, as she sings about the importance of love, both toward God and children, and, as a listener, you hang onto every word. "Sing me a Song...please!" is well-recorded, and Lynette's lyrics pierce through the arrangements perfectly. "Sing Me a Song" is a jazzy and lyrical number with great yearning vocal delivery and a nice build-up. "Used to Listen" gives the listener a first taste of Lynette's honky tonk side with the incorporation of the violin, a pleasant group vocal, and great lyrics about prayer, love, and family. Though it seems an unconventional combination, Lynette Louise has put together ten inspiring tracks that draw from both jazz and honky tonk, highlighting her strong lyrical talent. David Hansen's "All That I Could Give-New Edition" is a wonderful piece of music that really delivers to the adult contemporary crowd. Although his background is strongly rooted in jazz music, Hansen throws out more of an adult pop punch on his most recent effort. On the title track "All That I Could Give" screams of classic James Taylor vocal approach and is smooth and silky in style. If you are looking for some soothing jazz then "Love In Three Days" is a good track to check out. It features some very well polished jazz flute riffs and invites you into the artist true musical taste. This CD could easily be spun on any light rock radio station today and is a great listen. Should you find yourself wanting to hear something new and in the musical style of James Taylor or Steve Winwood then "All That I Could Give- New Edition" is a CD you will want to add to your collection.

Aussie band Roymackonkey delivers solid, '90s era rock with their newest effort "Cassandra Never Lies." After spending the summer touring the "land down under" with Wolfmother, it seems like this band is ready to spread their sound overseas and beyond. Their sound is sort of dated, but in a good way that reminds listeners of bands like Gin Blossoms or Nirvana. "The Fear" evokes that early '90s feel more than any other song on this album and has a nice R.E.M quality to it. The groove of "Chain Letter" is very solid and has that 'hit single' vibe to it. If you are looking to reminisce with the Seattle sound you used to love but want something fresh, as opposed to hunting down your old Soundgarden albums, then definitely take a listen to Roymackonkey's "Cassandra Never Lies."

"Celebrando 20 Años" is the impressive new release from the San Francisco Bay Area based Salsa band known as Candela, led by Edgardo Cambón. The core instrumentation is piano, bass, three trombones, conga drums, bongo drums, timbales and vocalists. Their sound is characterized by energetic musical performances featuring great vocals unique to the genre, a solid rhythm section and powerful ensemble figures from the trombones. Their music combines and integrates many Afro-Cuban styles including the Mambo, Cha-Cha-Chá, Merengue, and Bolero. The opener, "El Flaco" features a great piano rhythm, embellished by the fine percussion section and reinforced by superb vocals. Their sound is highly original, very infectious and extremely danceable. For perfect examples of this, listen to the enthusiastic "Tumba, Timba y Trombón" which features a fabulous trombone solo and the lively "Yo Vine a Bailar La Salsa," which features outstanding vocal passages. "Blue Norther" by The Bordersnakes is alternative/Americana album with a sound compiled from several influences. The basis is country, but throw in some blues and a blue collar rock element and there is a formula that equals high energy and a definite sing along ability. The arrangements are diverse and the performances are fantastic. Listeners will also appreciate the amount of passion behind the well-delivered, well-harmonized vocals. Overall, the band's sound is very complete and the song-writing ability is not to be ignored. The album sounds great, with evident care taken in heightening the experience by making every element of the sound represented. A highlight is the opener "State Road 7." There is and undeniable Springsteen element here, as this track has a raw power to it and a great piano line, and tears off the roof with a vibrant horn section. "My Troubled World" by Angie Kopshy is an acoustic folk/pop CD showcasing Kopshy's strong piano and vocal abilities. Kopshy shows a nice vocal range on this CD, and her vocals are crisp and clean. The piano accompaniment is a refreshing switch from a full band sound, and nicely complements Kopshy's vocals. The incorporation of guitar and violin on select tracks helps keep the CD interesting throughout. "Sweet Lolita" is recorded on two tracks offering a choice between violin and guitar as accompaniment. Each track is equally impressive to hear. Although some songs are performed with a solo piano and vocals, "Endless" gives a taste of sweet harmonies. In a nice switch of tempos "Believe" makes you feel happy and upbeat. "Awakening Life Force: Our Odyssey" is an excellent ambient new age album from Washington performer and composer Judith White. White's music responds to the questions of who we are and why we're here on earth, and this release takes these questions and turns them into a concept album about the evolving phases and aspects of life. Through beautiful, skillful, and calming piano-led new age arrangements, White crafts stunning instrumentals that befit each song title. "Take Your Power Back," for example, has a great authoritative stomping beat throughout, creating a sound that says you're on the march, and with direction. "Awakening Life Force" is well-produced, and the ambience, piano, and other instrumental work all sound clean and precise. "Delight" has a beautiful progression that uses the entire piano to tell a calming story of contentedness. "Tension" is a great piano composition that features a continuity of the aggressive beat in "Take Your Power Back," but this time on the high end of the piano, and haunting ambience. With "Awakening Life Force: Our Odyssey," Judith White has crafted a magnificent album with beautiful piano work and an interesting concept. Fans of ambient new age and excellent pianists are going to want to pick this one up.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Jimmy Lott with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Not Enough Love"

Jimmy Lott's "Not Enough Love" is an album ten years in the making, but perhaps Lott needed all of that time, all of those life experiences, to fashion such a solid, diverse, and mature album. Fueled by acoustic work on guitar and piano, Lott touches base in the folk, rock, blues, Americana, and country genres and skillfully crafts beautiful arrangements throughout. Lott has the raw, weathered vocals and country twang reminiscent of latter Bob Dylan, occasionally accompanied by a stunning female backing vocal. Lott's songs are original and poignant, both political, about soldiers and war, and socially conscious, about the world running out of love, the rich getting richer, and moving west. "Not Enough Love" is well-produced and sounds excellent, from the soft piano ballads to the lively Americana tracks, and everything in between. "Ain't No Use" is a bluesy track with nice acoustic and keyboard work, a rhythmic drumbeat, and a great vocal performance from Lott. "Rich People" is a cynical, socially conscious track about "those poor, poor, poor rich people" with great acoustic work and memorable lyrics, including, "Rich people don't get rained on/Rich people don't have to stand in line." With "Not Enough Love," Jimmy Lott has resoundingly returned to the music world and put himself out there with a musically diverse, well-crafted album. Fans of great acoustic work and latter day Dylan should definitely pick this one up.

"Seraphim Winter" is the excellent self-titled debut EP from San Francisco outfit Seraphim Winter that features outstanding female lead vocals and delightful ambient arrangements. All of the members of Seraphim Winter lend their vocals to the EP, though the beautiful and sensuous lead vocals of Mary F. Connors and the harmonic backing vocals of Stephanie Eike fuel this release. The songs are soothing, enticed with melodic keyboard, guitars, and percussion, and Western influence serving as a great accompaniment to the vocals. The songs are ethereal, moody, and meditative--great for relaxation. "Seraphim Winter" is well-produced, bringing the vocals to the forefront while keeping the instruments soft and befitting. "Dawn" opens the EP with a beautiful vocal harmony, ambience, and worldly beat, then has an excellent build that moves the song into a relaxing instrumental segment. "Welcome" closes the album with a nice beat, minimalistic keyboard work, a beautiful, worldly vocal performance from Connors, and great vocal layering and harmonizing. This is a great debut EP with moving female lead vocals and great atmospheric arrangements that leave you in eager anticipation of full-length versions. Fans of new age and superb female vocals should definitely give this EP a listen.

Jackson Garrett's "Please Call Me, Sanjaya!" is a blend of a wide variety of musical styles, moods, and influences. This release showcases Garrett's ability to be comfortable and shine in any genre, including blues, jazz, rock, pop, and even Latin-oriented styles. This album is all about versatility, from the Brazilian flavor of "The Wedding Samba" and "Let It Burn," to the straightforward rock of "Champagne Tower." The instrumentation also varies, with the appropriately titled "Cool And Easy" featuring the subtlety of brushes on the drums and a soprano sax providing a melodic solo. "Apuntale a la Verdad" is an excellent acoustic-driven release from singer/songwriter Marco Ulloa that features great Latin and world elements. Ulloa delivers with a clean, moving, and heartfelt vocal, primarily in the Spanish language. The arrangements on this album are also phenomenal, with great Latin-influenced acoustic work accompanied by world percussion, harmonica, and shakers to give the songs their full sound. The songs are sad and heartfelt, mostly about love but also about spirituality, as can be heard in "Jesus" and "Todo Por EL." The simple production of "Apuntale a la Verdad" effectively provides clean instruments and vocals while maintaining a great raw quality. "Tu y Tu Gracia" opens up the album with some fantastic acoustic work and heartfelt lyrics, and puts Ulloa's broad vocal range on display. "A Bit More" is the only English language track on the album that features more great acoustic work and the memorable chorus, "All I want is your soul, your love, your time, and a bit more." Overall, Marco Ulloa has put together an impressive album penetrable to both Spanish and non-Spanish speakers due his soothing and heartfelt vocals and well-crafted acoustic arrangements. Fans of Spanish language acoustic songs with world and Latin elements should definitely check this one out.

"Pointing North" is an excellent live rock & roll album from San Diego outfit STEHM. These guys are all about producing fun and upbeat rock & roll music. The songs are guitar-driven, full of outstanding solos, riffs, and progressions, and accompanied by great drum and bass work. The vocals are always energetic, though the entire band contributes to the vocal performance. That said, some vocals are gritty and sound like a combination of Rush and Blind Melon; others are sheer rock & roll and sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Mick Jagger. "Pointing North" is a live recording and has a raw, non-studio sound, which is perfect for a band like STEHM. "Sally the Girl Dog" has a catchy guitar riff and drum accompaniment, group vocals, and humorous lyrics that accurately describe the behavior of a dog. "Don't Tell Me Anything" pleases the ears with its superb guitar work, gritty vocals, and memorable lyrics. STEHM really represents what rock & roll is all about with its impressive guitar work and upbeat, fun songs. Fans of Stone Temple Pilots and fun rock & roll music are going to want to check out this CD.

Roger Cairns' "Let's…" showcases the Scottish vocalist's ability to move seamlessly between many musical styles, settings and genres. His passion, versatility, and flexibility are on full display as he interprets jazz standards and more modern selections. The production is clean and straightforward, with the vocals upfront and Cairns being supported on most tracks by a jazz quartet consisting of piano, bass, drums, and sax, though the sax is replaced by a fitting jazzy guitar on the spirited "Gravy Waltz." From the New Orleans feel of "Moonlight Becomes You" to the Brazilian textures of "They Say It's Wonderful" and "How Am I To Know," Cairns' personality can't help but to shine through. His heartfelt rendition of the jazz standard "My One And Only Love" is a definite highlight, exhibiting his mastery of the jazz ballad. Additional notable tracks include the bouncy, lively "Stormy Monday" and the contemporary sound of "To The Ends Of The Earth." "Let's…" is recommended for fans of jazz vocals and, with the many different styles presented here including blues, jazz, ballads, and swing, music fans in general.

Portland, Oregon trio The Catillacs have come with their claws out on their excellent debut album, "Meow Mix." Guitarist Richie Bean, drummer Susan Costa, and bassist George Burton performed on and produced the entire album, skillfully jumping between and combining Americana, rock, alt-country, blues, honky tonk, and surf rock genres. The entire album features nice musical layering, excellently crafted guitar solos from Bean, and great toe-tapping beats from Costa. The vocals are consistent with the genres and reminiscent of classic artists like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Young, and Canned Heat, adding a certain timelessness to their sound. The lyrics vary as well, from dark lyrics about death and exacting revenge to sappy love ballads to just plain fun upbeat songs about living. The Catillacs self-produced "Meow Mix," and it sounds excellent and professionally done. "Boogaloo" is a great introductory track with a fun upbeat voodoo blues sound, a great hook, and superb guitar work. "True Love Figurine" is a Chicago blues track with a New Orleans flavor that features great storytelling lyrics and a great blues arrangement. With their dynamic musical arrangements and timeless sound, the cats and Catillacs alike will be happy to know that "Meow Mix" has delivered. Fans of Americana, blues, and classic rock should certainly pick up The Catillacs' debut.

"Call It Blue" is a great '80s influenced pop rock album from Las Vegas' Lyric Road. Lyric Road draws their influence from a variety of groups, ranging from '60s Beatles to '70s classic rock, and '80s new wave to the post modern rock of today. Led by exceptional guitar and keyboard work, "Call It Blue" is filled with great arrangements that are at once classic, fresh, retro and "here and now." The lead vocalist is reminiscent of Elvis Costello and Ric Ocasek, which is great for their fused sound. The lyrics are great as well, offering a broad range of emotions and uplifting songs about self-awareness and feeling alive. "Call It Blue" is well-produced and sounds excellent and professional. "Woman" is a fun and moving song with a great keyboard progression, a strong vocal performance and nice backing vocals; look for a more raw and moving version at the end of the album with "Woman Take 2." "Wake Me Up" features sound effects and retro keyboard styling over a nice guitar progression and great lyrical imagery. "Call It Blue" is a great album that uniquely blends together Lyric Road's influences from five decades of music into stylish, fresh, and memorable songs. Fans of pop rock and retro keyboards, check out Lyric Road.

"Gone Astray" by California duo Which Ways Quicker is the the band's debut acoustic rock EP that features elements of alternative pop, reggae, and country . The only instruments on this album are guitar – acoustic for the majority, but electric for the reggae tracks – and drums. The resulting arrangements emit a simple, full sound. Lyrically, the entire EP centers around the theme of finding one's self, and Which Ways Quicker offers heartfelt and positive lyrics about having a sense of belonging and finding one's way back home. These songs are fueled by an upbeat sound and extremely catchy choruses. The vocals are unique, though in a poppy rock vein similar to Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz. "Gone Astray" is well-recorded, polished, and ready for college radio play. "Lost" opens the EP out with a song about forgetting where home is and slowly finding your way back, and features a nice acoustic arrangement and a catchy chorus. "New Diddy" is a reggae rock track with nice guitar work and fun lyrics about life in a small town. Overall, "Gone Astray" is a great debut from Which Ways Quicker that leaves the listener thirsting for more. Fans of acoustic and reggae rock, pick up this EP.

"Calm Breeze" is a great, live traditional jazz album from The Derrick Finch Trio. Finch is a student of jazz piano influenced by the likes of Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson and reflects this with great classical and traditional and avant-garde jazz arrangements reminiscent of his predecessors. His accompaniment, sometimes going beyond the implied trio, includes great stand-up bass lines, occasional saxophone solos, and classic jazz drumming. Together, The Derrick Finch Trio creates solid arrangements with great melodies that'll have your toes tapping and fingers snapping, guaranteed. "Calm Breeze" is a live recording, as well-done jazz is intended to be heard live. This recording is no exception. The title track, "Calm Breeze," has a great arrangement featuring Finch's versatile piano skills that show his complete mastery of the instrument, a sad saxophone, and a nice bass line. "Good Bye Pork Pie Hat" closes the album out nicely with a solo from Finch that features an excellent progression and a great build. "Calm Breeze" is proof that Derrick Finch's studies have paid off and he and his trio deliver a great jazz concert. Fans of acoustic, avant-garde, and traditional jazz, give The Derrick Finch Trio a listen.
